Death is the ultimate calling. To be ready for death is to face death without fear. For as long as cancer and some other serious predicaments mean sure death sooner or later, they should be treated with complete acceptance. It is God's way of finding out how gracious one can be in the face of these predicaments. Concealing it is part of the whole act of completing one's cross. The pain that goes with it should complete the sacrifice. Because life should be more of sacrifice. It is the art of life. I do not want to ruin my family's finances for a useless effort of saving a hopeless situation. I'd better hang up my gloves and show my wares. These could be the biggest points for salvation-sparing my loved ones of the pain they could undergo from seeing me in pain. Seeing them in pain could only double the pain. So bearing the pain could be just the most noble thing to do.

It is just an idealism that I hope to achieve. I do not mean to impose on other people. I know it is next to impossible. I know how much pain goes with cancer. That is why I am making it a goal. I have very low threshold for pain. But with enough determination, I hope to overcome pain till my death. Of course it is a different story if it is one of my loved ones who would be inflicted. I would do everything to save a loved one. They will do the same thing if they find out that I am sick. That is why concealing it is crucial.

For those cancer patients who have the means to undergo treatment, good luck to you. You have all the chance to get well. You deserve to get well. Mine is just a personal battle. An opportunity to make my life more meaningful. An opportunity for self mortification. I think this is my only entry to heaven. My only way to pay for my sinfulness. Again, do not mind me. I am just a sinner trying to win God's favor. I have experienced seeing two siblings pass away because of cancer. I do not wish to undergo chemotherapy. I think it is an empty promise.

The Pacquiao-Mayweather Fight

The upcoming Pacquiao-Mayweather fight is history unfolding. Who would ever imagine that a Filipino would be one of two heroes fighting for national pride come May 2?

Only death can make a tragic ending for Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao. Even if he loses, he already has a place in history.  The multimillion dollar fight is the "Fight of the Century", eclipsing all record holders.  He has nothing more to prove-- but a win is going to be very sweet for Filipinos around the world.

We may not have the likes of Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, or Napoleon, but we have Pacquiao the Conqueror.  His stardom is unparelleled.  This is the story of Pacquiao, the once impoverished man from General Santos who rose to stardom the hard way.

The Magic of San Antonio Spurs

What is the magic of San Antonio Spurs that keeps them winning all these years? All other teams are in hot pursuit of this team.  Since they won their first championship in 1999 they have continued to keep their secret.  With 5 championship wins in their belt under Coach Popovich, they have captivated my attention for 16 years.  Since they won their first championship, they have remained the team to beat, and all must be puzzled with their style of playing.

Superstars come and go.  They just could not shine bright enough with San Antonio as an opponent. And yet San Antonio continues to shine with relatively "cheaper" players.  Coaches must be so eager to know San Antonio's secret.

But I guess it's like a delicacy. Only the chef knows the secret. Not even the assistant coach knows. Otherwise, he would have been hired by other teams.  Till they discover the secret, San Antonio shall continue its conquest.  And for as long as Coach Popovich is around, they will remain the team to beat.  And they will surely eclipse the record set by Boston Celtics.

Bits of Life, Part 1

When I feel insightful, I try to distill my life experiences into "bits of wisdom", and put these into words.
The following is a compilation of these "bits of life", which I have come up with so far:

To love...
To love is to grow spiritually. Love can start small, and if you nurture it, it grows to mature gradually.  As it grows, it asks you to surrender a part of you.  Gradually you find yourself selfless already.  When you have given up everything already, it is your life that you will return with so much gratitude for God, the giver of life.

The Triumph of Easter
Easter is mankind's most glorious triumph.  We have been saved unconditionally.  The passion of Christ was like no other love story.  The price of His love was no less than that.  He sacrificed so much in exchange for every sin that we have committed, giving dignity to each human being from the richest to the poorest.  Let us respect every human life Jesus died for.

On Our Stewardship of Mother Nature
We only get to enjoy full freedom if we respect everything that Mother Nature expects us to respect. Freedom is curtailed when we curtail the freedom of others.  If we do not respect the environment around us, we would naturally have to deal with the law of nature.

When humans started existing, this world was already a paradise, with a diversity of living things.  It's just but a must that we use our resources cautiously so that nothing gets extinct.

Christ's Passion and Our Challenge
Passion is the essence of life.  Even if it leads to death, it is worth following.  The passion of Christ was not only suffering.  He took it wholeheartedly to fulfill His life's mission.  This is the challenge for each one of us. Will we wake up one day very determined to make our presence felt? Or, are we going to continue in our slumber and passivity?

On Daredevils and their Pursuit of Passion

This is my tribute to a friend of mine, a daredevil who died pursuing his passion:

Death is an eye opener of the summation of life lived and lessons learned.  It is the completion of life.  There is no life if there is no death. Without death, there is no thrill in life- just pure boredom.  Some people try to defy death by being more daring in their pursuit for perfection.  You cannot blame them.  They are just happy doing it.  Not all have ideal lives.  We just don't understand their ideal lives.  We all have our passions to live. Some are just too costly compared to others'.

The Route to Profession
Hard work developed becomes passion. Passion developed becomes obsession. Obsession developed becomes profession. This should be the only route to profession, nothing less. It is the route to excellence.

Life is a Gamble
Life is a gamble. If you bet too much on love, it might cost your life. But on the other hand, if you don't love with passion, time could be running out on you. And you plead God for an extension, just to see a glimpse of life.
